PROJECT MANAGEMENT: How Not to Get Lost in the Weeds: Keeping Your Work on Track

When we find ourselves entrenched in daily tasks and responsibilities, there is a tendency to get hyper-focused, putting our noses to the grindstone, and not taking the time to come up from the trenches to smell the roses.

Weekly one-on-one (1:1) meetings with your supervisor are always helpful to get you back on track when you find yourself getting lost under piles of to-do lists. Weekly check-in meetings give associates dedicated time to pause, discuss projects and other responsibilities, seek feedback, resolve issues, and share what’s on their mind. During this time, it’s also important to discuss career opportunities. This whole process allows everyone to stay connected. If you work at Avanceon, or somewhere similar, weekly meetings like this go hand-in-hand with how a workplace values its team members. Whether you work remotely or not, the goal and intent of the meeting is to remove roadblocks for connecting, facilitate discussing issues and subsequently resolve problems.

It’s critical, when we are full steam ahead, to set aside regular time to pause and focus to stay on the track. These weekly 1:1 meetings are a built-in pause that you need to get the most out of all of your activities.

What helps you stay anchored toward your goals?
