The (Online) Office Book Club

Office book clubs are a great way to build comradery while discovering new reads. Our club was born as a result of a conversation in passing, and has since grown a group of ten that’s been meeting for lunch for four years. How do we run our book club?

1.) A spreadsheet with a programmed generator to randomly select the person picking the book and the book genre determines what we’ll read next.

2.) We read the book (or most of us read the book!).

3.) Each month we gather for lunch to discuss the book, while also poking fun at the selection and making changes to the spreadsheet.

Our last book was a sci-fi selection chosen by Ben: “Recursion” by Blake Crouch. I’m reading a book I never would have otherwise, and I enjoy getting to see another side of my co-workers and learn something new. A Zoom book club can help maintain office friendships in our socially distanced reality, and can include fun extras like a cocktail or snack that coordinates with your title.

Our club even has a ridiculous name, designated by Frank, our acronym subject specialist. Want to know our ridiculous name? Or what our latest read was? Ask me about it!
